camo is the new black

Camouflage is definitely having a moment this fall. And though I’ve always been a fan of utilitarian chic (in fact, I still have an old field bag I bought at an Army surplus store while in high school), I’m nonetheless impressed to see so many new über-chic camo looks. Here are some of my favorites . . .

I love the mix of camo and leopard here. It’s a clash that just seems to work. If you want to try it yourself, check out Sanctuary’s take on the camo sweater.

J.Crew’s fitted camo chinos look great paired with a polished schoolboy blazer.

Edith A. Miller’s mixed media camo dress is a fun way to transition from summer to fall.

Spiked plum heels not only complement these ankle-zip camo skinnies, but create a combo that’s just plain sexy. Elizabeth and James has a similar pair if you want to recreate the look.

yes, please — fuchsia driving mocs

I’m so obsessed right now with these gorgeous fuchsia driving mocs from Ann Mashburn. The color is delicious and the luscious looking suede is just calling my name.

I love the contrast of the fuchsia upper with the camel sole, and could easily see wearing these babies with jeans and a white shirt (sort of Americana meets Amalfi Coast) or with black capris and a black boatneck top (à la Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face) or with a simple, camel-colored dress (very Hamptons chic).

Of course, good quality doesn’t come cheap. And though my wallet’s saying no, my heart’s saying yes. Let’s see who wins.

Happy hunting!

barn sale!

Great news for those in the VA/DC/MD area. Ekster Antiques is holding another barn sale this weekend in Hamilton, VA — from Friday, June 21st through Sunday, June 23rd.

Items on offer from my last visit, in March

I’ve previously written about Ekster here, and still find it to be a fantastic source for vintage and antique European porcelain, linens, and furniture. It’s one of my favorite places to shop for that perfect piece with just the right amount of character.

The barns at Ekster

In some ways it pains me to reveal such a great source, but I can’t buy everything there, so I might as well share the love.
